Spring in Bloom

I recently went up to the beautiful and charming Presidio Heights, SF to visit one of my besties (and fellow blogger), Bonnie.
To celebrate the AH-MAZING weather, Bonnie put together a Spring-inspired look.  Like every Spring, fresh floral prints are in and as usual, Bonnie is right on trend! She has a serious eye for fashion and always knows how to style the latest trends. In this case, she pairs a colorful floral dress with a bright yellow blazer and studded booties.

Kickin' it Old School

I wasn't sure about the wedge sneaker trend at first, but when I found a pair at Kohl's (for 49.99!) I was smitten! They can sometimes be tricky to style. I usually rock my pair with black skinny jeans. However, they look equally chic with a pair of jean shorts or a mini skirt too! For this week I thought I'd go for a sporty look, with my letterman jacket and a fresh white collared button up.

Don't you worry child

It was a rainy, yet fantastic, evening at LA's Historic Park. Where I, and a few friends, had the privilege to see Swedish House Mafia one last time!! Their Masquerade Motel surpassed all our expectations and provided us with an amazing evening of music and dancing! I was not only excited to see the trio live, but I was also looking forward to the fashion at an event like this!  I thought I'd focus on wearing something funky and fun, yet practical for the muddy terrain. i.e. dr. marten boots...

While I chose a grunge look for the festival,
my friend Kim and my sis Emily went for tie-dye and color!

As for the rest of the crowd, there were lots of masks, tights, headbands, tutus, and yes, even an argyle sweater. Everyone had their own interpretation of festival-style and that was a fun thing to see!

So, when it comes to dressing for an event like this, don't you worry child, you really cannot go wrong!

I Love Nueva York

I have been obsessing over Phillip Lim's Spring 2013 collection. Not only does he bring grunge back, but he also makes that touristy I "heart"New York shirt fashionable! I have been browsing the web waiting for these fantastic t-shirts to arrive in stores. However, the $350 price tag left me less excited. I was struck with a brilliant idea: DIY project!! So, yes folks, I decided to take on the challenge of making this I "heart" Nueva York shirt on my own.

What you need:
  - black cotton short sleeve tee
- iron-on white letters
- iron-on red sparkly transfer paper
- beads (go crazy! I went with a red and gold color scheme)
- silver tube beads (for collar)
- black thread
- sewing needle

I found it best to put on the shirt first and mark with stickers where to place the first letter of each line. Then, I ironed on each letter. Next, I cut out a heart shape on the red transfer paper and ironed it on.

I then sewed on the beads in random floral designs. Again, with this, go crazy! Any geometric patterns or shapes work with this tee.

After that, I sewed three of the silver tube beads vertically along the collar. I separated the sections about 1/8" apart. This was definitely the most time consuming part of the whole process. But, in the end it was all worth it.

Yes...it took 12 hours total to finish, but I couldn't be more happy to sport my DIY t-shirt!

Thanks for the inspiration Phillip Lim!
